The digital product passport: a catalyst for Europe’s eco-responsible initiatives
Digital Product Passports (DPP) is the EU’s tool to accelerate sustainable product practices by embracing the circular economy. It will become mandatory from 2027, signaling a profound shift for companies operating in the European market.
Each product carries a unique identifier linked to a digital dossier containing structured information on its lifecycle. All actors (manufacturers, importers, distributors, repairers, recyclers, and consumers) securely share and access data based on their governance rights, enabling informed decisions.

The responsibility for creating and supplying a DPP and ensuring conformity generally lies with the Responsible Economic Operator (the person or legal entity that places the product into the European market). Therefore, not only manufacturers or producers are involved, but also importers and brands.
Several barriers must be overcome:

2026 marks a decisive turning point in the DPP regulatory roadmap. Each product category is governed by its own Delegated Act, defining what data goes into the DPP and its technical specifics. The Battery Delegated Act has already been adopted, setting 18 February 2027 as the first hard compliance deadline. Other sectors are following, with an accelerating publication calendar through 2027 to 2030. Once a Delegated Act is published, an expected 18-month grace period begins, after which non-compliant products face exclusion from the European market.
Non-compliance = market exclusion.
Only 50% of European manufacturers believe they are ready for DPP. Don’t be part of the unprepared half.
Implementation challenges aren’t generic. They’re unique to your processes, products, and production lines. You cannot prepare for what you cannot see. The answer is to anticipate.
The EU DPP registry went live on 20 July 2026, alongside its official test environment. TX DPP is already connected to both, for textile and battery products. You can validate your integration in the sandbox, then move to live registration when your Delegated Act enters into force.
Train your teams. Structure your data. Test your workflows. Build your DPP expertise.
The registry is live. Compliance deadlines are set. With TX DPP, you can switch on compliance the day it becomes mandatory for your product category.
